Canberra Qwire

Music Director: Lachlan Snow
Accompanist: Jessica Stewart

  • Canberra Qwire welcomes members from the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities across the LGBTIQ+ communities, as well as our allies. Our choir consists of approximately 90 members ranging from late teens right through to the wiser generations; all drawn together by their common love of music and singing. Qwire acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we sing and come together. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. Qwire brings together people from diverse sections of the queer family to challenge stereotypes and build a bridge between Canberra’s queer and non-queer community. Since the founding members of Qwire stood up with pride in the 90s, Qwire has become increasingly diverse, welcoming people who identify not only as gay and lesbian, but also as asexual, bisexual, pansexual, genderqueer, genderfluid, intersex, trans and allies of the queer community. Qwire will be celebrating its 30th year in 2023, starting with participating in the Out & Loud & Proud choral festival, and Mardi Gras, and ending the year with a gala concert.

Lian Esperansa (Timor-Leste)

  • Lian Esperansa (Voices of Hope) is a choral group from Timor-Leste established in May 2019. Choir members are comprised of LGBTIQ+ advocates and allies who also find passion in singing.

Music has always been an important part of the Timorese history and culture. It was used as a tool to convey messages of hope and inspiration during the struggle for independence.

Today, an independent Timor-Leste is making significant progress in building acceptance for its LGBTIQ+ community.

Through Lian Esperansa, advocates and allies hope to use their unifying voice to inspire changes in their small nation and in the region.

The choir also performed at the Out & Loud Choral Festival in Canberra in 2019.

Whether you join us for rehearsal or performance we welcome you: come share our song.

Pride Choir Tokyo (Japan)

Music Director: Noritaka Moriyama
Conducted at OLP by Shinya Yamagata
Accompanist: Paul Chang

  • Pride Choir Tokyo is an ensemble of queer singers that was formed especially for Out & Loud & Proud, held in conjunction with the memorable Sydney World Pride 2023.

It was a challenge at first to find enough people that could travel to Sydney, but now we are blessed to come together as this awesome twelvesome.

Each member of our choir loves music, loves to sing and above all, is unique and fascinating in their own ways. Although some of us have no prior choral experiences and we have only had limited rehearsals, we have worked very hard to prepare for the festival.

We are so happy to be singing with you all and having a ripper of a time at Out & Loud & Proud!
